“To receive Botox/Dysport or not to receive Botox/Dysport,” that is the ultimate question!
The answer is at what point is a person bothered by forehead wrinkles, frown lines or crow’s-feet? Or does the person want to prevent wrinkles in the future? Botox/Dysport is FDA-approved and available for patients 18 years and older.
I am in my “early” thirties and started receiving treatment intermittently in my late twenties when I started noticing fine lines and wrinkles in my forehead and glabella to which I attributed them to ex-boyfriends and college professors. I took it upon myself to even name these disturbingly significant creases in my forehead Henrietta & Harold III. After I received my first treatment, I was hooked! My skin looked smooth, tight, and refreshed. I did not want to be completely “frozen” which was good because I could still move my face and have expressions without the wrinkles!
By now, you may be asking what exactly is Botox/Dysport and how does it work?
-Both Botox and Dysport are FDA approved neurotoxins that limits muscle movement in the treated area. If you are one who wants a more detailed or scientific explanation: Botox/Dysport are absorbed by nerve endings near the treated areas and block the release of transmitters from the nerve that signal muscles to contract.
How long does Botox/Dysport last?
The average is about 3-4 months. In my own personal experience, Dysport lasts about 4 months and Botox about 3 months; whereas other patients have said the complete opposite or note no difference at all between the two. Every individual is different and has stronger facial muscles and can metabolize the products at a different rate.
How fast does Botox/Dysport start working?
Typically, people will begin to see results within 2-4 days after being injected, but the full results can take up to 14 days.
Where can Botox/Dysport be injected?
A very common area is the forehead to treat horizontal wrinkles known as the glabella, which is the area between the eyebrows, also known as “11’s.” One could also get an eyebrow lift; this is one of the most injected areas because the muscles in this area is used often and repeatedly to show expression such as frowning and lifting of the eyebrows. Another area (one of my personal favorites) is around the eyes or crow’s-feet; injecting this area will diminish the lines around the eyes when squinting or smiling. Botox/Dysport can be injected around the mouth the help with fine lines from a history of smoking, sun exposure, age-related and even improve a “gummy smile” (that’s when someone smiles and you see their gums).
I recommend a consultation with one of our talented Nurse Practitioners to achieve the look you are going for. In the end, I highly recommend Botox or Dysport to help diminish fine lines or deep wrinkles, and then you too can lay your Henrietta and Harold III to rest!
